A very important zoom meeting was held regarding the "IT Industry expansion opportunities within Uva Province" with the participation of few key personalities from IT sector in Sri Lanka. Uva Startup Hub, the Information Technology industry unity of Uva Province powered by the IT companies, Start-ups and Online Freelancers derived a 5 years expansion plan for Information Technology industry in Uva Province. This expansion plan was presented to the President of Badulla District Coordinating Committee, honourable parliamentarian Major Sudarshana Denipitiya on Monday the 16th of November at LiveRoom (Pvt) Ltd - Research and Development Centre, Bandarawela. Honourable parliamentaria was really convinced about the grooming industry in Uva province. He promised to give his fullest support and also to take the attention of His Excellency the President Gotabhaya Rajapakshe, as the IT industry is under the president. As the Uva Startup Hub we are really grateful to the honourable parliamentarian for giving us an opportunity to present our plan, during his busy schedules.
LiveRoom Technology Development Center in Bandarawela opened on Saturday the 4th of July... Uva IT Industry demarcated another milestone with that. LiveRoom is the first IT firm to expand operations from Western Province to Uva Province. LiveRoom is a startup established by Chameera Wijebandara, සමීර නිලුපුල් together with Dr Chandana Gamage in 2015. Five years down the line, it is a 40 member organization catering to a wide range of global clients in Computer Graphic related programming industry. With this step, LiveRoom is now expanded to a multi-provincial establishment with the new Technology Development Center opened in the beautiful city of Bandarawela. With the target of reaching out to the hidden talents and skills in Uva province, giving them the opportunities to bloom. LiveRoom team is excited about this new step and is hoping and working their very best to create great things from their new office premises in Bandarawela. The Annual IT / BPM week jointly organized by Export Development Board, SLASSCOM & ICTA was conducted in December 2019. The Entrepreneurship session of that was held on Saturday the 21st of December 2019 at Capital City Hotel Badulla. Priwoo Labs - The first startup under the guidance of Uva Startup Hub was launched on yesterday the 23rd of Sept 2019. USH Member, a Senior Software Engineer, Nimesha Chinthaka took over the challenge, left his job in Colombo and established Priwoo Labs. USH conducted the "Online Entrepreneurship & Startup Workshop" on Sunday the 21st of April. With that guidance and after a few mentoring sessions with Kosala Sandaruwan, the Co-founder & CEO of Insfra Technologies, Nimesha was able to successfully develop a concept for a "Career Development Platform". This concept will be developed to a final solution under the Priwoo Labs startup.
Full-Stack Developer training program of Uva Startup Hub (USH) was successfully conducted on Saturday the 10th & Sunday the 11th of August 2019 at Insfra Technologies, Badulla. There were 21 trainees for the session. They were given a thorough knowledge about front end and back end development The program was conducted by a resource person of Uva Startup Hub Mr. Nimesha Gunawardhana. He is a Senior Software Engineer. Mr. Nimesha will be establishing the first startup under the Uva Startup Hub by next month. The members for this startup will be selected out of these attendees, after evaluating the performance of a practical test given to them.
The Concept development is one of the most critical steps in startup formation. “Design Thinking” is a five step structured process, which supports the concept development process. The founder of Uva Startup Hub, The founder & CEO of Ceydigital Solutions (Pvt) Ltd and a lecturer at Sabaragamuwa University, Mr. Kalinga Gunawardhana conducted a Design Thinking workshop for the USH members who are focusing on establishing startups. The workshop was conducted with a practical session and a review session!
Forming Startups and developing them to bring foreign currency are the primary objectives of Uva Startup Hub. To initiate this process, the knowledge about online entrepreneurship and startup business is a key prerequisite. The USH core team had several discussions on this regard and developed a curriculum to give the basic knowledge on “Online Entrepreneurship & Startup Business”.
Finally, “The Online Entrepreneurship and Startup Workshop”, was conducted on Sunday the 21st of April and Sunday the 12th of May to a team of selected members. Altogether 41 members participated for the 2 sessions.
A thorough understanding about,
The role of Uva Startup Hub (USH) on Startup formation
was given to the valued members, who participated in the session. It
was a good eye-opener for the members on the scope of online
entrepreneurship. The program was concluded with the next steps to
drive towards startups.
There
are global freelancing plat forms such as Fiverr (www.fiverr.com),
Upwork (www.upwork.com) & Freelancer (www.freelancer.com). These
platforms are proven to be firm income sources across the globe. There
are some expert freelancers among the Uva Startup Hub members, who are
working fulltime and getting a steady income.
After the discussions
had with them, Uva Startup Hub core team has realized that Freelancing
is also a good concept to promote in Uva Province to bring direct
income. With this focus, a Freelancer training program was conducted by
the expert freelancers on Saturday the 23 rd of March, Sunday the 24 th
of Mar & Sunday the 31 st of March at Insfra Technologies,
Badulla.
There were 47 members for the 3 sessions conducted. An
overall awareness about the freelancing was given to these valued
members with practical sessions. The program was concluded with positive
vibes on online freelancing.
The
online freelancing has become a vibrant income source across the globe.
With that scope, the Uva Startup Hub is planning a freelancing training
program for interested members. A thorough knowledge from profile
creation up until the revenue generation will be given under the
supervision of expert freelancers with practical sessions.
The
initial discussion with 5 expert freelancers was held on Monday the 04th
of March. These expert freelancers committed to lead the training
program with the intension of developing freelancing teams in the
future. Thanks a lot, expert freelancers who joined hands with USH to
take freelancing in Uva province to the next level.
The Uva Startup Hub Relaunch was successfully conducted on Saturday the 27th of January 2019 with a participation of around 150 members. After the event, an online registration option was given to those who have missed the meetup. There were around 140 online registrations. There was a wide variety of individuals among these members. There were students, professionals, freelancers, startup team members, investors and resource personnel.
So, a thorough understanding about the individuals was essentially needed, before planning the next activities of the Hub. In order to gain a good understanding about the qualifications, experience and skills of each individual, a round of discussions and telephone conversations were conducted. Finally, the members were categorized in to groups based on their expectations from the USH.
The Uva Startup Hub Relaunch meet up was held on Saturday the 27th
of Jan 2019 at Grand Regency Hotel, Badulla. The relaunch was a
great success with the participation of 150 members including few
expats.
Most importantly, the pioneering online entrepreneurship
company in Uva, the Insfra Technologies team and some investors such
as Mr. Al Haj Milhan Sadar of GoPro Consultancy Group joined the Uva
Startup Hub at the event. The key note speeches were done by Mr.
Janaka Thennakoon, Attorney at Law and leading history tutor; Mr.
Kalinga Gunawardhana, Co-Founder / CEO of CeyDigital; Dr. Randil
Gajasinghe, Engineer at Intel Inc. USA; Mr. Madusanka Premaratne,
COO of Insfra Technologies and Mr. Nirmal Marasinghe, Project
Manager at Insfra Technologies.
The key note speeches, all the
members were given an opportunity to raise the questions and a lot
of important questions were raised regarding Uva Startup Hub and
online entrepreneurship. These questions were answered by pioneers
in industry. The event was sponsored by Insfra Technologies.
Relaunch meetup was concluded with positive vibes about the future
of online entrepreneurship in Uva.
The inaugural conference of Uva Startup Hub (USH) was held on 25th of
September 2016 at Hotel Lavenra, Bandarawela. The Uva Startup Hub is a
community gathered with the objective of making Uva province the
Information Technology center of Sri Lanka. The event was graced by 130
participants which included online entrepreneurs, professionals & IT
students.
